Well, you’ve all seen it!!! A magnificent building and new sign along the side of the highway, heading south along the Trans Canada Hwy, but what is it and what does it mean?
Mill Bay Processors is excited as our 3 year project is finally taking on shape, for ourselves and for the farming community here in the Cowichan Valley and beyond. We hope to be in a position to open in the Spring. In the meantime, there is much to be done.
What exactly is it that we will offer?
Our plan at this time is to process chickens, turkeys and waterfowl, namely ducks and geese, for ourselves and for the community.
What can you do?
We are already hearing from local farmers here in the Valley that they are excited beyond words that such a facility will be on their doorsteps. Perhaps you are one of them, or know someone who is. The exciting part is knowing it is solidly in the works.
In the meantime, we are accepting Letters of Support and Expressions of Interest. Such documents should contain your name, your farm name, your approx. address (such as Glenora, Cobble Hill or Lake Cowichan etc. or even from beyond the Valley) what you farm, (broilers, turkeys, geese etc.) how many you presently do or what you hope to be able to do. Another piece of information is how far you presently travel to obtain processing dates when you need them. (We recently became aware that some are traveling to the Fraser Valley) Details like these will assist us in future operations planning.
Such documents should be emailed to us at info@millbayprocessors.ca or info@millbayfarms.ca
What else can you do?
Let your friends and others you know in the farming community to check out our website and stay tuned.
We are working as fast as we can. Don’t forget, as local farmers, we need this service too.
